Making Google Docs, Gmail and other web-based editors easier
PicturePaste allows you to take pictures or graphics from any
desktop application, or photos from your camera, or screen
captures, and more easily embed these into web-based editors such
as Google Docs, Gmail, Yahoo mail, Wordpress and others.

Installing
Download the PicturePaste Setup program to your local hard disc
and run this program. It will take you through the normal program
install procedure. No registration is required. When you install you
have the option of adding a icon to your desktop and / or to the
system Quick Launch tray area.
How To Use it
Start the PicturePaste program. You will be presented with a blank
PicturePaste window.
1.
Copy the graphic from your source program using the usual
program Copy command. e.g. use the Edit -> Copy menu or
the usual key short-cut of Ctrl+C. Immediately you should
see the copied image in the PicturePaste Window.
2.
Click the Convert button.
3.
Switch into your web browser editor (Gmail or whatever) put
the cursor in the editor where you require the image and type
the usual Paste short-cut Ctrl+V
Embedding Photos (or other image files)
Simply drag the JPG (or JPEG, PNG, GIF, WMF, TIFF) file from your
Windows File Explorer (or even your digital Camera folder) onto
PicturePaste window.
or
Right click on the PicturePaste window and select Open
Image File.
Because PicturePaste provides easy resizing, and cropping
facilities (see below), you can avoid using other graphics
software.
Note: PicturePaste only supports static, not animated GIF images.
Screen Capture
You can easily capture your whole computer screen or just a single
Window using the Print Screen key on your keyboard.
If you hold the Alt key when you press the Print Screen key, it will
copy the current window to the clipboard. Without Alt it just copies
the entire screen to the clipboard (and thus into PicturePaste).
If you have a laptop keyboard you will typically have to press the Fn
key in combination with another.
Resize
With picture or photo in the PicturePaste window you can just drag
the size-slider that’s along the lower edge of the window to resize
the image. Click the 100% indicator to restore the image to its
original size.
Note: the maximum size an image can be is 2000 pixels across, and
so for larger digital camera images clicking 100% will only make it
the maximum 2000 pixels. (It is very rare indeed that you’d ever
want to paste an image in your document more than 1000 pixels,
let alone 2000 pixels.)
Default Picture size
Normally any image larger than 500 pixels is resized down to be
500 when you copy it. This is the most common or useful size for
embedding into emails and blogs.
You can adjust this default size by using the Settings dialog. Click
the spanner icon in the top right corner and select Settings. You
can enter a new maximum size.. You can still adjust it using the
size slider, but this controls the initial maximum size.
Crop
Just click and drag diagonally across the image in the PicturePaste
window (before you Convert). Click the Undo icon next to the
Convert button to restore the original un-cropped image. You can
do this even after a Convert.
Re-copy
After you’ve pasted the image into your editor, you might use the
clipboard for something else, such as copying some text. You can
re-copy the converted image to the clipboard again (e.g. if you want
to use the image again somewhere else), by simply selecting the
PicturePaste window and typing Ctrl+C.
or
Right click on the image and select ‘Copy Converted Image’
PNG or JPG
When you click the Convert button it creates either and PNG or JPG
image for embedding into your editor. For most purposes a JPG
image will be fine, but for some types of images such as charts,
graphs or other non-photo computer graphics (such as the Excel
chart shown on the right) you can get better quality by selecting the
PNG image type.
When converting to a JPG type, you can control the quality using the
Settings dialog (click the spanner icon). The usual JPG quality is 75.
If you select values higher than this you’ll get a marginal increase in
image quality, but the file sizes can grow considerably and so slow
down the conversion and download size. It is not recommended to
ever use a JPG quality of 100.
File sizes
After you Convert, the file size (along with the pixel size) is shown
on the lower right corner of the PicturePaste window. You can
change the PNG or JPG option and re-do the Convert to compare
the file size of each image type.
The smaller the file size the better as it results in smaller emails
and faster downloads for viewers of your documents or emails.
Scrolling (pushing) the image
If the image is larger than the PicturePaste window you can use the
usual scroll bars and mouse, but a better way is to press the center
mouse button (or wheel) and dragging across the image.
Advanced Settings:
FTP or Amazon server settings
You have the option of uploading converted images to your own
web server when you click the Convert button. This is a little more
complicated to set-up and requires that you have some ‘FTP’ web
space or an Amazon S3 account.
See the Server Configuration Help page for more details.
More Help
If you require more help email help@picturepaste.com and someone
will get back to you as soon as possible.
After a Convert the ‘Drag and drop’ rectangle appears.
Just drag this over your web-based editor or just type
Ctrl+V in your editor. That’s it.
To embed photos just drag the file
from the Windows File Explorer onto
the PicturePaste window.
Click here to resize the image back
to its original 100%
Just drag across the image to crop.
